Street Lighting

Please be aware that the Town Council is not responsible for any street lights within the town, and the ones shown in Green belong to ELDC or various Housing Associations.

In April 2016, Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) began a streetlight transformation programme, in a bid to save £1.7m per year from the £5m annual streetlighting budget. As a result of the changes, around 42,000 streetlights, mainly in residential areas, are now switched off between midnight and 6am.

  • LCC light – Converted to LED – remain on all night but dim late at night
  • LCC light – Converted to LED prior to transformation project – remain on all night but dim late at night
  • LCC light – remain on all night. Not currently due to be converted to LED
  • LCC light – to remain on all night as part of exception criteria (nursing homes, speedbumps, CCTV etc)
  • LCC light - Converted to LED part - Night lighting (switch off between midnight and 6am)
  • Not currently maintained/owned by LCC

LCC has recently carried out a formal review into the impact of part-night lighting, looking at topics including:

  • the environment
  • crime rates
  • fears about safety and crime
  • emergency services
  • health and public health services
  • the impact on businesses and the night time economy

As part of this process LCC asked residents to share any feedback, both positive and negative, in relation to the impact of the introduction of part night streetlighting.

All feedback received will be taken into consideration. However, the available streetlighting budget does not allow for a wholesale reversal of the changes.

The outcome of this review has not yet been published.
