The Horncastle Allotments are situated on Churchill Avenue (off Boston Rd) on land known as Walter Gardens, and cover a site of approximately 4 acres. The site consists of 97 half plots in total, with most plots well established and some newly created plots on land behind the original gardens.
Rental for a half plot is £30 a year (runs from 1st April to 31st March) with a £50 deposit which is returned once the plot is given up provided it has been left free of weeds and debris, the key has been returned and it is ready to re-let.

We have been advised that this weed has ‘invaded’ the allotments. It can be kept under control by strict weeding, before it gets to seed. Information sheet here.

Please note: the prizes for 2022 were higher than usual, as there was no competition held in 2021. From 2023 onwards, the prize amounts will return to the usual amounts.
Celebrating Community Spirit at Horncastle Allotments 2020
There is usually an annual allotment competition, judged throughout the Summer by Councillors on the Estates Committee. But it’s been an unusual year, and even the annual allotment competition has been affected.
Throughout the lockdown period, it transpired that the allotment community pulled together and supported those who had to self-isolate, tending to others’ plots, keeping them free of weeds and in a good state of cultivation. They showed incredible community spirit and voluntarily gave their time to help one another out.
Rather than holding a competition judging the quality or variety of crops produced and amount of work invested in the gardens by allotment holders, this year the Town Council decided to award plot holders for demonstrating exceptional community spirit. Plot holders were asked to submit nominations for those who they felt had gone ‘above and beyond’ to support one another during these unusual circumstances.
Horncastle Town Council have great pleasure in announcing the recipients of the awards:

Unfortunately, it was not possible for the awards to be presented in person this year due to social distancing and COVID restrictions, but congratulations to all recipients and thank you for being so supportive of your fellow plot holders.
Annual Allotment Competition winners 2019
The Town Council holds a ‘Best Kept Allotment’ competition each year. It is judged by members of the Town Council Estates Committee with the winners of ‘Best Overall Allotment’ and Best Newcomer’ being presented with a shield and prize at the Council meeting in Autumn 2019.
